Toledo Lucas County Public Library
Evergreen Illustration System

The Toledo Lucas County Public Library needed a collection of custom illustrations that could communicate the full range of their offerings—while remaining evergreen and reusable across seasons and campaigns.

The goal was to create a cohesive illustration system that highlights key services like audiobooks, cost savings, and children’s programming in a way that feels engaging, clear, and approachable.

Project Overview

This project focused on developing a long-lasting illustration library that the organization could use across marketing materials, educational content, and digital platforms.

Rather than designing for a single campaign, the system was built to support ongoing use—capturing the value of a library card through storytelling, everyday moments, and service-driven visuals.

Design Approach

The illustration system was designed to feel whimsical, detailed, and approachable—appealing to a wide audience while clearly communicating practical benefits.

A series of visual vignettes were created to represent different library offerings. These included seasonal bookshelves, scenes highlighting children’s programming like story time and music activities, and conceptual illustrations focused on cost savings—such as receipt-style visuals showing the value of borrowing versus buying.

Additional illustrations showcased audiobook and e-book usage through mobile devices, highlighting accessibility and modern library services across a range of genres.

The style was intentionally kept evergreen, allowing the library to reuse the artwork year after year without feeling tied to a specific campaign or timeframe.

Kallie has been an integral part of the Library’s communications strategy. We work to position the Library as an unmissable positive presence in the community by populating our website, email newsletters, social media, and print with messages and images that connect people with our materials and services. Kallie always takes the time to understand what we are trying to accomplish and how her work supports the strategy. She shows early concepts, checks in throughout projects, and follows through with all elements within our deadlines and budget. The Library’s youth and adult programs consistently meet attendance metrics with her as part of our creative team.
